No big surprise but sophomore forward Matt Hill will have surgery on his left heel and will miss the rest of the season. I think they were holding out hope he could get by without going under the knife and get on the court this year, but I guess that wasn’t the case. He hasn’t played at all this year so he’ll be eligible for a redshirt and will still have three years of eligibility left.

Thankfully, his hair should be fine.

Now that Hill is officially out for the year the impending return of Gary Johnson becomes even more important. Rumors are that he should be cleared sometime in early January. He arrival will bring much needed depth and energy to the team just in time for conference play.

Nebraska big man Matt Hill has become Rick Barnes and the Texas basketball team’s fifth committment of the 2006 class. Hill, in addition to having an absolutely fantastic afro, is a 6′10″ PF/C from Lincoln who moves well and is an excellent scorer. He and fellow 2006 commit Dexter Pittman will team up to create a pretty formidable inside duo when they hit the Forty Acres in 2006. The class now is made up of the two big men, top rated small forward Kevin Durant, and two excellent guards in Harrison Smith and Justin Mason. That’s a pretty solid starting five.

Rick Barnes is making basketball recruiting almost as exciting as football recruiting, let’s hope our fans get out there and show him and the team our support when they begin the season next month.
